Nigeria held on to a one goal lead to beat Burkina Faso in the Final of the 2013 African Cup of Nations. Mba’s chip before halftime was enough to decide the match.

Jonathan Pitroipa had his red card lifted so he could compete in the final. Even a full strength Stallion’s side couldn’t break through the Super Eagle defenses.

Steven Keshi’s side never looked in danger of losing. The exertions leading up to the final proved too much for a tired Burkina Faso. Keshi now becomes the first person to win the AFCON as a player and Coach. As winner of the African Cup of Nations Nigeria will represent the CAF in this summer’s Confederation Cup taking place in Brazil.

Emmanuel Emenike won the Golden Boot with four goals. Jonathan Pitroipa earned player of the tournament.

Elsewhere Mali cruised to a 3-1 victory over Ghana in a repeat result of last year’s third place match.
